| Why do depot adjuvants have a higher viscosity? |
The depot effect of this type of adjuvant is based on an emulsion of natural, biodegradable oils. Unlike mineral oils, these natural, food-grade oils are extremely well tolerated. Depot vaccines contain approximately 65% oil in contrast with conventional mycoplasma vaccines which contain only about 5%. There is no depot effect without oil! When cold, the vaccine is viscous, but when warmed to body temperature, e.g. in warm water, the depot vaccine is easily injected. |
